Soda

Soda has one of the worst reputations amongst many dentists, doctors, and nutritionists. Soda is to blame for tooth decay, hyperactivity, obesity, and diabetes. So what ingredients are safe, and which ones are bad?

Some of the ingredients found in your average soda are caffeine, phosphoric acid and high fructose corn syrup, carbonated water, caramel color, and natural flavors.

Caffeine, is a diuretic tonic known to be addictive.  Carbonated water is pure water infused with carbon dioxide, which is what creates the bubbles. Caramel color tints and natural flavors are added for taste and often are a citrus variety.  These are considered to be safe.

Some of the bad ingredients would be:  Phosphoric acid, because it is the chemical that adds a tangy or sour flavor, it breaks down starches into sugar. The corn syrup provides a little nutrition and a lot more calories.

Sodas even have a label on their cans which state “not a significant source of fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron”.  By the way Diet Soda is just as bad.

If soda is so bad, why does it taste so good?
